I’ve been actively browsing the web for ways to help the Earth solve the problem of plastic pollution. There’s been tons of them created over the years ever since they were first discovered, and so much of them are affecting wildlife, it makes me feel so uneasy whenever I throw plastic away.
As I scrolled past my Ecosia searches (wait, what is Ecosia?), I stumbled upon the Ecobrick. It’s basically making a brick out of plastic, filling up a plastic bottle with wrappers and other soft plastics inside as a building block for those in need of infrastructure. I figured this was nice, until I stumbled upon their website, saying it is the deep solution to plastic. I do not believe this can truly solve our plastic problem, for we are simply repurposing them.
What is the solution to plastic? It’s getting rid of it completely, out of our lives, out of the companies that continually make them. We all have to do something to change the fate of our planet, and this mentality has to stop:
Whatever I throw away is gone for good.
No, it’s NOT. When you throw something away, especially if it’s non-biodegradable, it’s still here, on this planet, polluting the land or sea. We have to be aware of what we throw away, otherwise, we will soon be living in a garbage dump.
Okay, that was a bit too much, but hey, who wants to live in garbage, right? You who stumbles upon this is fortunate enough to have a roof over your head, food on your table and a stable enough internet to get access to tons of information. So why can’t people switch to living a zero-waste life? Tune in to my next blog post about the struggles people face when switching and how this can be addressed.
