Tab for a Cause: a Chrome extension that donates to charity

How many times do you open new tabs on your browser whenever you surf the web? You open a tab for Facebook, your email, or search on Google… So yes the average person will open quite a lot of tabs online. So, what if, for every tab you open, you help donate to charities like…

There is a way to do this, by using a Chrome extension called Tab for a Cause.

Simply install it to your browser and, for every new tab you open, some ads will pop up that will help the company generate some funds to send to these charities. You can also add nifty little widgets like a bookmark tab, notes, to do list, clock and search bar feature.

This is what my new tab looks like. On the upper left-hand corner of the screen, you can see some icons. These can prove useful if you want to save pages, make a to-do list, write a note or search the web.

On the right-hand corner is the amount raised for charity and hearts earned by opening new tabs. This can be donated to the charity you wish to support.

In the center, there is a large clock and a date beneath it. On the lower right-hand corner is what makes Tab for a Cause raise money, ads.

The nice thing about it is, you can use the default search engine to Ecosia! Simply go to the Settings page, and select Ecosia under the Widgets tab. This is also where you can enable and disable certain features on the new tab.

You also have the freedom to choose what the background is for new tabs by heading over to Background under Settings. You can let Tab for a Cause surprise you with gorgeous photos, choose your own or have a solid color as your background.

The best part? Donating hearts you’ve earned by browsing the web! Simply click on Donate Hearts under Settings and choose a charity you want to vote for. I personally like Conservation International because of their extensive environmental conservation, plus they have a lot of other programs as well.

If you are still doubtful of their legitimacy, have a look at their financial reports to see how they manage the revenue they get! Are you convinced? Come let us help donate to charities and make a difference by simply surfing the web. Make your time online worth helping other people.
